I used them for my back surround speakers, but not for long. They just weren't up to the task. They lack clarity and frequency response is rather limited, thanks to the 3.5" driver. They're OK if you really can't accomodate anything larger, but overall I'd say they're a waste of money.
With my setup I have room for a re-purposed Technics 100W receiver, but no good place for speakers, which really have to fit up on the windowsill. Smooth, full sound. For years I've been suffering as I tried to listen to music through cheap, self-powered computer speakers. Well, there ain't much. I'd suggest 50W per channel if you want solid bass. My little Polk Audio bookshelfs -- an even better value -- just don't fit. Fortunately, it's working out very well.
Really better than I'd expected for the size. Nothing I tried was much good. Decent bass. So I went looking for something smaller, but still high quality, for under $75. This was about it. It's an acoustic suspension design (not ported), so it's not particularly efficient. Overall, I'm much happier now, whether listening to local FM, Internet radio or I-tunes.
I bought these speakers for the front channels of a 3.1 theater system. I may move them to the rear later because they are quite small but they certainly perform well for $50.
I'm pleased with the speakers performance for the price. The size is perfect for my stands. I use them for watching TV and movies.
The sound is good and are small enough to be unobtrusive. Look elsewhere for better pricing. Excellent product, but Amazon has over priced it at $149. The remaining home theater speakers are BIC as well and all sound great. 06/2009 - The price at Amazon is much better now. I've been using a pair for the back channels in a 5.1 home theater setup (all the speakers are BIC). I had one BIC speaker (SV52SIB) fail, and BIC's customer support took care of it by sending me a replacement speaker which I was able to replace myself. And BIC is very reachable and willing to answer pre-sale questions.
